“Survival of the Thickest” Chose Micchelle Buteau in the lead Role!
Netflix gives the green light to an eight-episode comedy series, “Survival of the Thickest.” Michelle Buteau plays the lead role in the series, which adapts her 2021 book of the same name. Michelle will also create the series with Danielle Sanchez-Witzel, showrunner of NBC’s The Carmichael Show and co-executive producer of New Girl.
The host of The Circle, Michelle Buteau, was a part of Netflix in projects such as the Welcome to Buteaupia stand-up special and its hit rom-com Always Be My Maybe. Survival of the Thickest marks an expansion in the relationship between the streaming giant and The Circle host.
Mavis Beaumont, played by Buteau, is the central character of Survival of the Thickest. Mavis is black, plus-size, and freshly single. She finds herself having to rebuild her life after placing all her eggs in one man’s basket. With the help of her chosen family, a good attitude, and a gorgeous v-neck with some lip gloss, she decides to not just survive but flourish.
What should you be expecting?
Buteau and Sanchez-Witzel’s showrunners will also serve as executive producers with Ravi Nandan and Alli Reich from A24. It comes after Sanchez-Witzel signed a multi-year overall agreement with Netflix in June. It marks Tracey Pakosta’s first significant talent deal since joining the streaming service as a VP.
“Michelle Buteau is many things: a brilliant writer, a gifted stand-up comedian, and an empowering performer,” stated Pakosta. “But above all else, she is one of the funniest people alive. Witzel, one of TV’s sharpest visionaries. Survival of the Thickest will bring Michelle’s unique point of view to life.”
“It’s been so damn amazing finding a home with Netflix. To say I’m excited to continue my relationship with them is an understatement. I’m over the moon, and I’m under it. Danielle has been a dream partner. I can’t wait to share what we’ve been cooking up,” commented Buteau.
Michelle Buteau has a jam-packed agenda ahead of her. She will host the second season of Barbecue Showdown, a cooking competition produced by Maverick TV USA. She will also act with Jennifer Lopez, and Owen Wilson in Universal Pictures’ feature picture Marry Me. It will air on February 11th. Buteau will also narrate The Principles of Pleasure, a new docuseries.
