Dubsmash to shut down next year by Reddit

Reddit is also launching new video features, courtesy of the Dubsmash team, as part of today’s event. There are new options to modify recording rates and set a timer on the built-in camera. In addition, you may now upload clips in landscape, portrait, and fill modes. You can also modify and cut several clips at the same time. Users may now add stickers, doodles, voice-overs, and filters to their clips using a new editing panel.

The news comes less than a year after Reddit paid an undisclosed price for the TikTok-like video platform. After the 22nd, Dubsmash will no longer be available for download on the App Store or Google Play. And the app will no longer function.

When Reddit first announced the deal, it stated that Dubsmash will continue to operate under its own platform and brand. Combining forces has shown to be a winning combination. Reddit is a place where passionate groups come together for timely, dynamic, and honest exchanges about things that important to them, and video is becoming increasingly central to how people want to connect, the business wrote in a blog post.

Big Shock For Application Users

The upcoming closure of Dubsmash is expected to have the greatest impact on producers of colour. Dubsmash was particularly popular among Black and Latinx users on TikTok, while the most well-known stars are white. Reddit said that 25% of all Black youths in the United States were using the platform by the end of 2020.

Those users are now faced with a difficult choice: they can either support a platform that has been accused of being a safe haven for hate speech and misinformation, or they can look for a supportive community elsewhere.
